Marigold – Calendula officinalis – is one of those herbs found in traditional medicine in almost every culture. For wound healing, skin soothing, and inflammation. Studies explain why.

Marigold contains flavonoids and triterpenoids, especially oleanolic acid and lupeol. These compounds are anti-inflammatory – they soothe irritated skin and can support the skin's healing process. In addition, marigold has been shown to promote collagen synthesis, which also makes it interesting for treating aging skin.

In practice, this means: marigold soothes irritated skin, supports the skin's healing process, and reduces redness.

In Silky Sage, marigold is extracted directly into the tallow. Extraction means that dried marigold petals are steeped in fat for long enough so that the fat-soluble compounds – i.e., the beneficial ones – transfer to the tallow. Not a diluted water-based extract, not a powder – but a fat-soluble extract that the skin can utilize effectively.

Combined with tallow's biocompatibility and sage's balancing properties, marigold is the part of Silky Sage that makes it effective even for sensitive and irritated skin.
