Sensitive skin and skincare: why more isn’t better – and what to do instead

Herkkä iho ja ihonhoito: miksi enemmän ei ole parempi – ja mitä tehdä sen sijaan

Here's a paradox nobody really talks about: the more skin problems people have, the more skincare products they tend to use. And the more products they use, the more sensitive their skin often becomes.

This is not a coincidence, but a clear cause-and-effect relationship.

Skin is an ecosystem. It has its own microbiome, its own pH, its own lipid balance. When you wash it with a strong cleanser, apply three serums, two liquids, and a moisturizer on top – and do this twice a day – you're not strengthening the skin. You're constantly shocking it.

Sensitive skin is not a skin type in the same way as dry or oily. It's a condition. It indicates that the barrier is weakened or the microbiome is out of balance. And in that situation, the first thought shouldn't be 'what can I add to my skincare routine' but rather 'how can I let my skin recover'.

Meadow's approach is consciously minimalistic. Silky Sage tallow balm is a single product that works for cleansing, moisturizing, and protecting. Not because it's easier to market as simple – but because it works with the skin. Skin doesn't need twelve products. It needs the right ingredients.

Calendula soothes, sage balances, tallow nourishes, and beeswax forms a breathable protective layer. Tea tree oil keeps bacteria in check without being aggressive. That's all sensitive skin needs.

If you have sensitive skin and have tried everything possible – perhaps it's time to try less.
